This book, Korval's Game includes two complete books regarding Plan B and it's aftermath. I will not summarize these stories, but to advise you to trust the Authors to intellectually stimulate your reading pleasure. I would advise that you at least have previously read Agent of Change.

Plan B:
For this to come in effect, Korval is in dire danger for all members. Each clan member is to disappear, report in clandestine fashion, and wait for balance against the common enemy. Then some really exciting stuff begins to happen - enjoy.

I Dare:
This is the motto of the Laiden, clan Korval dating back some 1300 standard years to Jela (see Crystal Soldier and Crystal Dragon). Plan B is in effect, and the Authors give us multiple threads of Korval members lives and their efforts to achieve balance with the enemy, while attempting to avoid being wipped out before balance is achieved. Then some really exciting stuff happens - enjoy.

I love this series. In this book, Val Con and Miri take up their legacy and go after the villains that have pursued them for over a year. The worlds involved are well developed and the characters easy to become attached to. This is best read after The Agent Gambit for full understanding of the characters involved.

The best part, to me, was their acceptance into the troop of the Xtrang -- how he was tested and then how he was integrated into their plans. I also loved the reappearance of characters from before, such as Suzuki, Jason Carmody, and Liz.

My only complaint is that the cover figure with Miri is not Val Con but Shan. Artists should get their character's hair color and physique right!
This is yet another novel of Clan Korval that returns some familiar characters, albeit older, and adds newer characters that you will come to love as well. No matter how much I read of the Liaden Universe I'm left wanting more and more. If you are as addicted to this as I am, this will sate you for several hours of most enjoyable escapism that is better written than most of the current Sci-Fi material out there.
Book number 10 and 11 of 17+ books plus a few more short story books. _Korval's Game_ is an omnibus of two previous books, _Plan B_ and _I Dare_. I really like buying my SF books by the pound (1.3 lbs for $9.19 at in trade paperback).

If you have read any of Lee & Miller's Liaden Universe novels you have probably read them all so the point of this review is just to assure anyone new to this series of just how good it is. The collective genre of the whole series is Science Fiction/Fantasy/Romance rolled into one and written in a style that allows you to overlook minor inconsistencies and demands that you care about the welfare of all the characters. I seldom read books twice yet I have read some of these novels three times. I despaired of finding "I Dare" when it was long out of print and am very thankful to Baen for bringing it back as part of this omnibus. All the reprints now sit with some of the originals on my bookshelf. Some of the originals are, by the way, valuable collectors items.

There are very few series/books that you can compare this too. For me the best reference I can offer to experienced SciFi readers is probably Cherryh's Chanur series written many years ago and one of the few others that I have reread. It is not a stretch to compare Lee & Miller's writing to a four time Hugo winner and I do not understand why these authors have not garnered their share. Perhaps it is a conspiracy by the Department of the Interior.

Read Conflict of Honors for the romance, read this book for the action, but read all of them and then you will want more. Thankfully there are many short stories. Get them on ebooks and use them to fill in the details. You will want to, you will need to actually-). And after that? Well Necessity's Child will be out next month and we are assured by the elders of Clan Korval that five more books are already in the pipeline. Can't get here fast enough!
Copies of "I Dare" were very hard to come by, and even hard to obtain through inter-library loan, so I was thrilled to receive Korval's Game, which includes both Plan B and I Dare. The writing still works, and the inter-weaving of story lines across so many books shows some great plotting. Re-reading both of these books sets the stage for the old Korval stories to merge cleanly with the Saltation/Fledgling series to a culmination of both in the forthcoming Ghost Ship. Bravo! And Bravo to Baen for finally making some older treasures once again available. Given how hard the older Liaden novels were to find, I'm glad to now have the full set residing on my bookshelf.

One quibble Why do the artists for the Lee/Miller books always manage to introduce some weirdness into figures on the cover? Balance of Trade features Norn ven'Deelin with absurdly short arms, and another figure whose head looks badly photoshopped jutting ahead of his body, and Korval's Game features Miri Roberston - war-hardened mercenary -- with a poochy tummy hanging out.
